5 Oct 2021

Sometimes, businesses need to change their address for some reason, which may include changing the location of their business. When they do, it is important for these businesses to file the changes made to their address and inform the United Kingdom government about it. An AD01 form is used to do this.

AD01 form: What is it?

Company owners in the UK usually use this AD01 form. It is a new form and it is used for any registered office address information change of their business. This form was launched on October 1, 2009 as part of the Companies Act of 2006. It replaced the Form 287, another document which was used for the very same purpose. Now, with the new AD01 form, company owners in the UK which changed their registered office address after September 2009 should use this to file such change.

Companies House has made policies on the forms to be used and make it more descriptive about its function. This is why the AD01 came into being. The “AD” found in the name is actually a code and is the abbreviation for “address”. With that, the AD01 is a form for addresses and its function is with regards to the change of a business’ registered office address. As per the “01” in the form’s name, this part shows that it is for the change of the address of the office of a business which has already been previously registered. This AD01 form is actually the most used document that Companies House has.

When it is time to fill up the form, the owner of a business should provide the important information that the form asks for. Such information includes the company number, the business’ complete name, the new registered office address, and the business’ authorized person’s signature.

How is the AD01 form submitted?

When a business owner fill up the AD01 form, they should be able to provide all the necessary information asked by Companies House. This would include the company’s complete name, the company’s complete number, the business’ new registered office address which would now be used in place of the old one, and the business’ director’s signature to authorize the changes.

It is also important to remember that no payments would be asked when filing an AD01 form. In fact, one can get a copy of the form online here.

Company owners who may want to change their registered office address should understand that Companies House will approve of such only if the complete postal address is provided in the AD01. This new address should be in the United Kingdom and it should not be a P.O. Box address.

Once completed, the AD01 can now be sent to Companies House via registered mail. The address would be Companies House, Crown Way, Cardiff, CF14 3UZ. In case a business owner wants to file the AD01 online, that is also possible by simply going to the Companies Address link.
